The Arcetri School of Physics 11 It is well known that Galileo Galilei spent the last years of his life confined in the Villa del Gioiello, a country house at the Pian de’ Giullari on the hill of Arcetri, a few kilometres from the centre of Florence. There he carried out his last heavenly observations and wrote fundamental Physics works.
