By Jane Hall (eds.)

The telecommunications scene is altering swiftly because the international details society comes nearer. glossy broadband networks make it possible to interconnect disbursed platforms on a world foundation. yet to gain a world info infrastructure that makes use of the capabilites of broadband interconnection to the total, cooperative telecommunications carrier administration wishes specific attention.
This monograph is the ultimate document of the ecu RACE II examine venture arrange, dedicated to designing and enforcing prototype telecommunications administration platforms over genuine testbeds. the wonderful effects awarded are a massive contribution to advancing the cutting-edge within the box and feature been commonly said via criteria our bodies, brands, operators, provider services, and academics.

Each project partner brought its own specific interests to the project, sometimes overlapping but often different or even contradictory. Therefore, although we were not operating in a true commercial environment, the viewpoints of the customer, the value-added service provider, the public network operator, the management platform vendor, and vendors of network technologies were all represented. 4 Objectives of the PREPARE Project Management cooperation between organisations in the telecommunications service market is a prerequisite for an open service market.

The VASP has its own TMN operations system which cooperates with the CPN service layer OSs to manage end-to-end services across the various P u N t domains and the customer domain utilised in the VPN service. Part of the value-added service provided by the VASP is to coordinate the management of the P u N t domains. This is performed on a contractual, financial, and administrative basis at the service management layer by having direct management links with the PN service OSs. The customer does not therefore have to implement any direct links, either organisationally or through a TMN, with the potentially large number of P u N t s involved in providing communications services between CPNs.

A modelling approach is therefore required that can: 9 Structure the management functionality in an architectural framework so that the control and management functions can be distributed over the many domains involved. 9 Designate the management services available at each interface in the architecture. 9 Specify the management information model that is needed in each domain. The definition of a suitable architecture to facilitate end-to-end service management with multiple providers involved has to take various aspects into account, for example the business structure (reflected in the number of enterprises defining autonomous domains), the model of end-to-end communication functionality, and the model of functionality implemented or represented within the individual domains.
